Katherine Heigl talks….alot….why not make this RAS #2?

June 13, 2008

Of course, you’ll all remember RAS #1

What do you all think of Katherine Heigl’s latest newsmaking comments?  Honestly, the comments she made about Isaiah Washington didn’t bother me at all.  In fact, I don’t even remember what she said, but I think it was something about Isaiah Washington needing to keep his mouth shut.  I am not sure why that caused so much controversy because he really does need to keep his mouth shut.  Last year she made some comments about ABC during her non-existent salaray negotiations.  I didn’t blame her for doing that either because Izzie is (or was) a beloved character on the show and she deserved just as much as the other “lesser” characters (i.e. Christina, Alex, George, etc) if not more.

However, my defense of Katherine Heigl stops here.  To withdraw her name from consideration because she wasn’t given high quality material to work with is really stupid, for one thing.  I would gladly take an Emmy nomination!  For another, it’s really rude and ungrateful to the show that has opened so many doors for her.  She’s had the lead in a couple of movies now and is a highly regarded movie actress now (as well as TV actress).  She’s successfully made the jump from television to movies, which we all know isn’t easy to do.  I liked Roswell alot, but it wasn’t exactly boosting her star power.  How difficult would it have been to leave your name in the pool of actresses being considered for a nomination?  Does she want to be let go that badly that she would alienate ABC (and more importantly Shonda Rhimes)?  She’s not quite A-list material yet, so she can’t afford to be burning bridges, especially big bridges like ABC.

Random Act of Stupidity (RAS) #1

May 13, 2008

This marks the beginning of a new part of my blog.  Every now and then, I’ll be writing about stupid things I’ve seen on the news (pertaining to the entertainment industry).  I’m going to call it Random Act of Stupidity (RAS).

How many people carry around .22-caliber handguns in a duffel bag?  How many mediocre actors carry around .22-caliber handguns in a duffel bag….to the airport?  Just one that I know of.  Apparently Dennis Farina forgot that he had stored his loaded handgun in his duffel bag, so when it was still in his bag at the airport, chaos ensued.  He wasn’t waving his gun around in the air or anything like that, but I can imagine that airport security doesn’t take concealed weapons very lightly.

Has he resorted to threatening people with handguns to get work in Hollywood?  I wouldn’t be surprised because his filmography at imdb is looking rather bleak.
