Is America really that fickle? They must be because two people I thought would never be near the bottom three this early in the competition were actually in the bottom three….with Kristy Lee Cook (which, let’s face it, was not a shock). Of course, I am actually happy that Amanda Overmyer was voted out because she’s the kind of contestant that sneaks by and has you worried that she could be the winner. What a sad day that would be. She’s certainly not my American Idol. Throughout the competition she has come across as arrogant and extrememly pretentious which is silly because you’d think a girl with teased black and white hair would have nothing to be pretentious about. She was pretentious about rock (which is the worst kind). If something isn’t in-your-face, then it’s just plain boring. Well Amanda, apparently American thinks you’re boring and would rather endure Kristy Lee Cook on tour. Embarrassingly enough, I concur.
The other singer in the bottom three, Carly Smithson (who was eventually sent back to safety), was a shocker. She’s undoubtedly the best female singer in the competition and in my opinion, possibly the best singer in the whole competition. Perhaps the problem is that she isn’t memorable. Simon couldn’t remember her name a few weeks ago, and maybe America has a hard time remembering it as well. Maybe her fans don’t think she’s in trouble, so they don’t bother voting. Other than that, I can’t think of any reason why she would end up below Chikezie, Syesha Mercado, Ramiele Malubay, or Michael Johns (I like him, but he needs to do something great or he really will go home).
How do you feel about last night’s results show?
